White Sox Bring Back Podsednik

Is it 2005 all over again? I sure as hell hope so. Kenny Williams took a step towards bringing back the 05 club together today by agreeing on a deal with 2005 World Series hero Scott Podsednik. Pods played for the Sox in 2005, 2006, and 2007. He was one of the fastest players in all of baseball during the first half of the 2005 season. However, injuries began to slow him down in the second half and he was never the same player again afterwards. He was very mediocre in 2006, hitting just .259 and struggled even more so in 2007. He was let go prior to the 2008 season and is now back a little more than a year later.

Podsednik hit just .253 in Colorado last season, but he is much better than anybody else the Sox have right now in terms of the center field position. I'll take him over Brian Anderson and Jerry Owens anyday. Look for Podsednik to start against right handed pitchers. His performance on the field will determine where he will bat. But it looks like he will probably bat 9th since Chris Getz is currently the leadoff hitter. Unless Getz also lands on the DL (he did leave the game against the Twins, but it was just a bruise on his bicep), Pods probably won't hit leadoff unless he plays his heart out like he did in the first half of 2005. This will also mean that Jerry Owens will not get called up to the big league club.
