Wakefield Flirts with No Hitter

The Red Sox bounced back from a three game losing streak with a a win over the Athletics 8-2. Tim Wakefield's No Hitter was broken up with one out in the 8th by Catcher Kurt Suzuki. Wakefield recorded 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts in his first complete game of the year.

The Red Sox also had the bats working today. Mike Lowell had his second home run of the year to bring in Jason Bay in the 2nd inning. It was scoreless after that until the top of the eighth where the Sox put up a six spot. After a David Ortiz and Kevin Youkilis walk, J.D. Drew who previously stuck out his last three at bats, hit a three run home run into the right field stands. After that Nick Green singled in Bay, followed by a Jacoby Ellsbury single. The Red Sox needed this game, and Tim Wakefield was the man who stepped up.

What's next for the Red Sox?

The Red Sox will have an off day tomorrow before heading back home to face the Baltimore Orioles.

4/17 - Brad Penny (1-0) vs. Jeremy Guthrie (2-0)
4/18 - TBA vs. Adam Eaton (0-1)
4/19 - Jon Lester (0-2) vs. TBA

The Red Sox should continue to play good defense, and to keep hitting the ball well. The first three hitters (Ellsbury, Pedroia, and Ortiz) haven't been hitting all that great, with all under .200 batting average. However, the rest of the lineup including Youkilis, Bay, Lowell, and Drew have stepped it up, and have been hitting the cover off the ball.

Daisuke Matsuzaka has been placed on the 15 day disabled list for right arm fatigue and rotator cuff strain. Hopefully this is a minor injury and will only take the 15 days. In the meantime, left handed pitcher Hunter Jones has been called up from Triple-A to fill the roster position.

Let's hope the Red Sox can get some more wins, and get back to the even mark after this series.
