Red Sox Complete the Sweep

Boston completed the sweep of the Orioles winning by a 12-1 score. The game started at 11:00 AM, yes that's AM because of the annual Boston Marathon. The Red Sox started off early by getting two quick runs in the first via a Pedroia single and a Rocco Baldelli ground out. Varitek also hit his third homer of the year in the second inning to give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead. Baltimore scored their lone run in the top of the third with a Cesar Izturis single. After that it was all Red Sox. They scored three times in the sixth with another Pedroia single, and a David Ortiz triple (wow!). And in the seventh they put up a six spot with a Lowell double and single, Pedroia single, in which he finished with three RBI's. Youkilis and Ellsbury each hit singles with a Chris Carter sacrifice fly as well. Justin Masterson had a good game by pitching 5.1 innings, 4 hits, 3 strikeouts, 2 walks, and 1 earned run. Delcarmen, Okajima, Lopez, and Hunter Jones all had scoreless innings in relief.

The Red Sox have now won five straight and look to keep it going at home versus the Minnesota Twins for two games. These are the following match-ups:

Scott Baker (0-1) vs. Tim Wakefield (1-1)
Francisco Liriano (0-3) vs. Brad Penny (1-0)

After that the Red Sox will take on the Yankees at home.

The Red Sox need to keep the bats going, as well as pitching. They have gotten decent starts from guys, and the bullpen has closed the doors for all games in this stretch. The Red Sox are currently batting .268 as a team. David Ortiz and has not been hitting well with a shocking .196 average in 13 games. Even though some other players like Jason Bay and Dustin Pedroia are also below their average, they seem to be stepping it up recently in the last home stand.

In the following games, lets look for the Red Sox to keep the bats alive, as well as their starters to have a decent game and to leave the bullpen to close it out.
