Konerko and Dye Go Back to Back for 300th Home Runs. Quentin Drops Two Bombs as White Sox Pound Detroit.

The 21,850 fans at Comerica Park witnessed history today as they saw Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko hit back to back dingers, both of which went for their 300th home run in the second inning of today's 10-6 White Sox win over the Detroit Tigers. There had never been an occurrence in the history of Major League Baseball where two players reached a triple digit home run milestone in back to back at bats.

Carlos Quentin also added two home runs towards his grand home run total, giving him 4 on the season and 54 in his young career. Quentin has hit 3 home runs over his last 3 games. He also added a vital RBI single in the 3rd to extend the Sox' lead to 2. Any doubt of Quentin's loss of power from his 2008 wrist injury should now be put away as the slugger is looking as good as he did during his MVP-caliber 2008 season. Besides their historic home runs, Konerko and Dye also had great days at the plate, going 4-5 and 3-5 respectively. Konerko also knocked in 4 runs.

On the pitching-side of the spectrum, Gavin Floyd simply did not have any control or his best stuff. He walked 7 batters over 5 innings while only striking out two. More importantly, he allowed 6 runs on 5 hits. If it was not for the Sox offense, Floyd would have been a dead duck. Nevertheless, the Sox scored no runs for him in his stellar opening night start last week. Maybe this one was a make-up game for Gavin. Even though Floyd was not himself today, he did pick up the victory and improved to 3-0 in his starts at Comerica Park. Matt Thornton got out of trouble in the 8th with some help on a great diving play by Josh Fields to rob Carlos Guillen of an extra base hit with men at the corners. Scott Linebrink then closed it out in the 9th inning as the White Sox win the opener at Comerica and improve to 4-3 on the season.

Injury note: Dewayne Wise injured his shoulder while attempting a diving catch in today's game. His status is not yet known, but he will most likely end up on the 15-day DL.
